Community Development FareShare Food collection driver

Barnardo’s is committed to providing ‘Better Outcomes for More Children’. Our children’s services volunteers help the charity to deliver essential services in local communities, providing support to over 300,000 children, young people and their families. This role provides a great opportunity to join our fantastic children’s services and help make a real difference.

Fareshare Food Collection Drivers are responsible for collecting Fareshare donations from supermarkets at designated times and delivering them to the Base in Whitley Bay. Food is then distributed by the team at the Base to vulnerable young people. This volunteer role does not involve any contact with young people.

Volunteers will need to have access to suitable transport in order to do this role. We are looking for volunteers who are reliable and punctual, as supermarket collections must be made on certain days at certain times.

Reliable, punctual and trustworthy.

Approachable and welcoming.

Passion, enthusiasm, compassion, understanding and having an open minded approach.

The ability to work independently and use their own initiative, as well as working as part of a team.

Having some knowledge with Community Development or working in communities would be useful, but not essential.

About Barnardo's Young People & Families Team

Providing services to Young People & Families including: ICFA - Improving Child and Family Arrangements is a court ordered programme through CAFCASS. Referrals come through lead agency CANW, from the courts and CAFCASS Family Court Advisers. The aim of the service is to make a positive difference to the lives of children and their families. The Independence Project will take referrals of young people as a step-down from therapeutic services concentrating on the emotional wellbeing of young people 12-18. The service will work with young people for a period up to six months to offer support with transition and ensure the young person will not require any further counselling. 1-2-8 Youth support: targeted, holistic group and 1:1 support including for LGBTQ+ young people, age 10-18 offering a safe space to meet weekly with peers, make friends, access 1:1 support from Barnardo’s youth workers, and take part in a range of activities building skills and confidence, and having fun along the way
