Primary School Reading Support

Family Gateway

Family Gateway volunteers make a vital contribution to our aims. We recognise the added value that volunteers bring to our organisation and those who use our services. Our volunteers inform our work and help us to develop, and we can support volunteers to learn skills and achieve personal development during their time with us. We recruit volunteers using our “Barefoot Professional Model” which means we recruit people from our local community who have a range of life experiences that they can use to support other people who come to Family Gateway for support. Family Gateway works in partnership with the primary schools across North Tyneside. We provide volunteers to go into the primary schools and support students to read for 10 minutes a day.

Duties include:

· Report to reception and ask which classroom you will be supporting

· Ask for the list of children who will be reading to you that day

· Take the children to the designated area for them to read to you for the time specified by the teacher

· Take the child back to their class

· Sign out at reception once you have supported all of the children to read
