Schoolreaders
1 in 4 children leave primary school below the expected reading age. This role requires you to listen to children read and encourage an enjoyment of books and an increase in reading for pleasure. This support is proven to help build children’s literacy skills and enable them to move towards reaching their academic potential.
Volunteers will visit a primary school weekly for a minimum of an hour and listen to children read individually to help develop their reading and comprehension skills.
Volunteers enjoy making a difference to children and helping to encourage them to read for pleasure and improve their reading skills. Knowing that what you are doing will make a difference to these children improving academically and to their future life outcomes.
It is not necessary to have any prior school experience or qualifications for this role but volunteers do need to be over 18, have good written and spoken English and enjoy spending time with children.
