Trustee

The Net North Shields / The Old Low Light

The Old Low Light Heritage Centre on North Shields Fish Quay would like to recruit new trustees.

We are an established charity (The Net North Shields) with an experienced board and have been operating for 12 years. Our current members have a broad range of knowledge and skills, but we believe that going forward it would be helpful to have some new people to boost our capacity and help us develop and flourish into the future. First time trustees would be welcome.

Our centre is a lively community hub with a popular café, a heritage gallery and a top floor that is used as a meeting place by local groups and for our talks, workshops and music events, as well as for exhibiting displays from previous exhibitions. We have a viewing platform with amazing views of the mouth of the river and a lovely outdoor space.

We believe you will find working as a member of the board a fulfilling experience: protecting a historic local building, providing a venue for a wide range of activities and bringing the community together to celebrate our local heritage, culture and the natural environment, as well as helping to promote new ventures.

We currently hold four meetings of the full board each year, along with some additional brief meetings for our three sub committees - Staffing and Finance, Events and Marketing and Buildings Health and Safety.

If you are interested or would like to find out more about what the role of a trustee involves, we would love to hear from you. We are happy to answer any questions you may have by email or by phone.  Please contact Nina Brown, Secretary, at info@theoldlowlight.

What skills do I need?

An important attribute is to have a passion for local communities, their heritage and culture.  We would be particularly interested in hearing from people who have experience in fund raising, marketing, event organising or digital media.
