Trustee: Buildings & Facilities Management

North Tyneside Art Studio

North Tyneside Art Studio (NTAS) is a well-established creative health charity dedicated to supporting people across North Tyneside to improve their mental health and wellbeing through art and creativity. For 35 years, we have delivered life-changing programmes: our structured, referral-based Arts for Mental Health service supports adults with diagnosed mental health conditions, while our open-access community activities build connection and reduce loneliness. We also partner with local agencies to support people facing diverse needs including addiction recovery, neurodivergence, and emotional wellbeing challenges.

We are now embarking on our most exciting milestone yet: securing our first permanent home—a building held on a 50-year lease that will become our Creative Community Hub. This space will house our core services, expand our community provision, and provide affordable space for local groups and charities to thrive. As we step into this new chapter, we are seeking a strategic, forward-thinking Trustee with specialist expertise in Buildings and Facilities Management to join our Board.
This is a pivotal role: your professional insight will guide us as we establish systems, maintain safety and compliance, plan capital and maintenance budgets, and ensure our new building is a welcoming, efficient, and sustainable base from which to deliver our mission for decades to come. You will work alongside fellow Trustees to shape our strategic direction, uphold strong governance, and act as an ambassador for our organisation across the region.

This is a voluntary position with reasonable expenses reimbursable. The initial appointment is for 3 years, with the option to serve up to two further terms. Board meetings are typically held quarterly, with flexible opportunities to contribute to sub-committees or project work aligned with your skills.

  • Genuine commitment to NTAS’s vision, mission, and values—passion for mental health, creativity, and community wellbeing
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a small, dedicated team, offering independent judgement and strategic thinking
  • Willingness to contribute actively to Board discussions, attend quarterly meetings, and participate in sub-committees as relevant
  • Integrity, sound decision-making, and an understanding of the legal and ethical responsibilities of charity trusteeship
  • Commitment to equal opportunities and building a Board that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve

Desirable
  • Experience of managing or developing premises within the charity, community, or public sector
  • Knowledge of sustainability, energy efficiency, or accessibility standards for buildings
