Good Neighbours Odd Jobs Volunteer

North Tyneside VODA

DESCRIPTION

Join Our Team of DIY Heroes!

Are you handy around the house and enjoy helping others? Our project is looking for friendly, practical volunteers to become part of our Odd Jobs Team — offering simple DIY help to local residents who need a hand.

As a Good Neighbour Volunteer, you’ll carry out a variety of everyday tasks — like changing a light bulb, putting up shelves, or hanging curtains — small jobs that make a big difference in someone’s day. You don’t need specialist skills, just a practical mindset and a willingness to help.

Your role will involve more than just fixing things — it's also about bringing a smile, having a friendly chat, and being a supportive presence in the community.

If you have basic DIY skills and a kind heart, we’d love for you to join us. Take a look below to see the types of jobs we offer — and let’s make a difference, one small task at a time!

What skills do I need?

We’re Looking for DIY Volunteers to Lend a Hand!

Do you enjoy fixing things and helping others? Join our team of Good Neighbours odd job Volunteers and make a real difference in people’s lives by supporting them with simple household tasks.

As an Odd Job Volunteer, you’ll:

  • Help local residents with small odd jobs jobs and basic repairs around the home
  • Refer to VODA if someone could benefit from additional support beyond your visit
  • Log a quick update on Volunteero after each visit to keep the Good Neighbours Team in the loop

Some of the tasks you might help with include:

  • Hanging pictures and putting up shelves
  • Assembling simple flat-pack furniture
  • Carrying out basic home repairs
  • Securing carpets or flooring for safety
  • Hanging or taking down curtains and curtain poles
  • Replacing light bulbs and light shades
  • Moving furniture outside for council collection

Every visit helps someone feel safer, more comfortable, and supported at home — and your time and kindness can have a big impact. We’d love to have you on board!
